Radiance & Beauty - A Study Day in Stained Glass Roger Rosewell Friday 21 February 2020

Booking opens January 2020. The first lecture will start at 10.30am at Goldwater Lodge, Goldsworth Park, Woking, GU21 3RT. Entrance on the lake side.

In three sessions Roger traces the history of stained glass in churches from Anglo-Saxon England until the present day. He explains evolving styles and techniques and discusses why some of Europe’s greatest painters created these masterpieces of colour and storytelling. The study day explores how medieval people responded to these images, the lives of the artists who made them, and the relationships between stained glass windows and other works of art. Foreign glass imported into Britain, Victorian windows and the oeuvre of modern artists are also considered. We hope to include local examples of important stained glass worth seeing.

Roger Rosewell FSA is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and an award winning author. Since 2006 he has been the Features Editor of Vidimus, the on-line magazine about medieval stained glass. He was educated at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University.
